People seemed to like my previous run-through of some of the locations from The Ancient Magus’ Bride, so I thought I’d do another one.
Plus I’ve found it surprisingly fun, mainly because it’s very interesting to see locations I’ve visited, both recently and regularly over the years, show up in a contemporary anime.
This one is from Episode 16 – God’s mill grinds slow but sure.
During the episode, Chise’s route takes her from Ainsworth’s home in the midlands to Paddington Station. From there, she goes on a trip which roughly corresponds to the route above. The street route might not be precise as some of the locations are too general to find, but the others are quite specific – for instance the Hyde Park location is correct to within a few metres (that point is adjacent to the actual park bench). Sadly Google doesn’t have a decent angle of the Soho Square location due to cars, foliage and (I think) a one-way system.
It’s evident that a great deal of work has gone into researching these locations. Someone on the production team has been meticulous in picking the locations and finding good angles from which to picture them.
One of the things which cracks me up is that the “Christmas Menu” is just a list of several random British-sounding foods, none of which are particularly Christmas-focused – I mean you’d expect there to be a turkey item, or some mince pies, or something! Couldn’t actually place that (the front door isn’t enough to go on; I’m not looking up every pub in London).
Anyway, that’s this one – probably will do more if the locations continue to have this much attention to detail!
