I thought they couldn’t require you to need an ID for voting registration unless they make it super easy/free for people to get one? Like, I’m taking my second semester of Political Science right now and both semesters the professor has made a point to bring that up. If they require you to have something like an ID that has a fee involved for obtaining it, that’s basically a poll tax and therefore it’s illegal. Even if it was only like $10 or something, that’s still a fee that you have to pay to vote, and states aren’t allowed to do that.
Now, I don’t know how the DMVs in Alabama work but I’m assuming it isn’t 100% free. And in any case they’re making it so that there’s a huge time cost required to get an ID now. I don’t know if that’s technically “illegal” but it sure is sketchy as hell. I’m hoping there’s a legal way to argue against this…
