POKEDEXXY DAY TWENTY-FIVE: [ FAVOURITE LEGENDARY ]
To be frank, there are only three Legendary Pokemon that belong here on my list. It’s more or less a three-way tie, it mostly boiled down to which one I wanted to draw more at the time. I wound up going with Mewtwo since he has the least amount of details, haha.
I am well aware of how exhausted people are of Mewtwo, but this psychic cat has continued to juggle its way into my top three throughout the years. Really, only two others have threatened Mewtwo’s place; Mewtwo’s been pretty consistent in my favourite Legendaries list.
I can’t exactly say I like what’s become of Mewtwo as of Gen VI. The Megas are abominable and I wasn’t particularly keen on its role in the movie where the Megas debuted. I am kinda happy that Mewtwo’s popularity was somewhat revived as I’ve always loved Mewtwo and he did kinda fall from grace for a lot of the fans, being one of those Legendaries that was almost forgotten, I just wish the Megas has been better–or better yet, streamlined to just one Mega. Mewtwo X could’ve been thrown into the bin, Y is decent enough, but both is a little much.
Rather, it’s the original lore of Mewtwo being Team Rocket’s expensive science project that I’m attracted to–everything about Mewtwo’s origins is super cool–and sad. Mewtwo’s expanded story in Mewtwo Returns’s side movie broke my little kid heart. It was literally the first time I’d cried for anything animated, so Mewtwo has gotten a lot of sympathy from me–and surprisingly, empathy. I resonated with Mewtwo when I saw his origins. I had a hard time keeping hold of my friends, so it really hurt when Mewtwo lost his over an undisclosed period of time. Different reasons, but similar feelings; the other Legendaries simply do not have this level of humanization to them, and this is a Pokémon that was meant to be a heartless war machine.
The runner ups for this spot are Ho-Oh and Xerneas.
