suppermariobroth:

On October 28th, 2017, the official Nintendo LINE account published an audio file titled “Jump Up, Super Star! Short Version Free Download”. The audio was a 47-second long sample of the background track of the “Jump Up, Super Star!” song from Super Mario Odyssey, with pitch-shifted Toad sound effects overlaid on top of it to resemble singing. The account then revealed that the song was supposed to be sung by Kinopio-kun, the green Toad mascot of the account, and posted a picture of Kinopio-kun dressed as Pauline (seen as the album art on this post). Note that the Nintendo LINE account is operated directly by Nintendo of Japan.

Nintendo details Switch’s online service features ⊟

Online play will be free on the Switch until Nintendo launches its new paid service next year, but here’s an advance look at what you should expect. You’ll pay $3.99 for one month, $7.99 for three months, $19.99 for a year-long subscription to the console’s online service.

One of the service’s components will be a smartphone app:

“Our new dedicated smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games─all from your smart device. A free, limited version of this app will be available for download in summer 2017.”

Nintendo also mentioned being able to “download a compilation of classic titles with online play” (Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight, and Dr. Mario being named) – that language is a bit different from the “monthly game download” the company initially promised for its Classic Game Selections. Maybe that’s a good thing, considering how much people didn’t like that idea?

[Update: The company told Kotaku that it has adjusted its plans to release monthly game downloads with limited availability: “Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will have ongoing access to a library of classic games with added online play. Users can play as many of the games as they want, as often as they like, as long as they have an active subscription.”]

i really fuckin love the old chunky ds design I don’t think we’ll ever get a handheld with as much charm and unapologetic character as that ever again

that being said my favourite has to be the GBA SP because I mean just look at it:

It’s a beautiful little square. A lovely little boy! He knows what he’s about and he’s nothing more! The little grooves that hold the buttons, the way it flips up with a satisfying click like the DS original, the cute little shape and the adorable rounded edges. Perfection!
