start your drawing day by warm ups. draw some beans. draw a fuckload of beans. when youre tired of drawing beans draw a line or two or six. draw some shapes over that line that vaguely resemble a human form. follow the flow of the line. loosely connect those shapes to resemble something human. dont worry about how anatomically correct or whatever bullshit is going on, just connect everything and dont focus on any single detail.
when youve got all those shapes connected together you can then start adding details like fingers or toes or nipples or whatever the fuck. again, dont really focus on accuracy of these details, youre just drawing to get the idea out. form and other nonsense doesnt matter as a beginner. you gotta learn HOW to draw before you learn how to draw. youre forming technique, not skill, first.Â
take a step back when youre sick of drawing and look at the awful shit you just drew. youre going to be disappointed that it doesnt look exactly like how you envisoned. as you refine your technique and develop your skill, youll find that drawing what you see in your minds eye will become easier but maybe not ever perfected. accept that practice makes practice makes practice, never perfect. some days youll be able to draw things that youre proud of but then wake up and hate the next day. art is a capricious hobby. keep at it anyway and youll improve.
this comic rubbed me the wrong way and I felt uncomfortable reading it and then I saw the source was plebcomics and I knew why
Well, that’s your fault. Quit telling artists what to do
I love that you went back to reblog this post a second time just so you could specifically say this to me as if you’re so smart, you’ve come up with the comeback of the century.
I am an artist. I enjoy headcanons and ocs just as much as anyone else but I’m not forcing them on anyone. the problem with this comic is that it’s a half assed, regurgitated excuse to not include diversity in their story. it’s really, not that hard to include that little slip of diversity in your characters or story, and pleb is just coming up with excuses as to why she shouldn’t- her shitty history of being a dick aside. not to mention the “fan” in her comic reacting to being told to make her own characters is some of the furthest shit I’ve ever seen. this comic is just a way for pleb to take a stab at “sjws” for something a radical probably only ever did once, pat herself on the back for it, and then move on to the next bullshitted excuse she decides to throw out there.
and I’m only replying to you once because not only is your url some of the stupidest shit I’ve ever seen, I can tell after scrolling your blog for 5 seconds that you’re an asshole to everyone. congratulations!
hi lancerdiarmuid. youve been reblogging the shit out of this post and i couldnt help but notice.Â
this comic is legit a direct quote-on-fuckin-quote of the sourced exchange i linked. im sorry that you seem to take issue with the fact that not everyone takes too kindly to having their creative works shit on, even if you dont think (aggressively) suggesting changes to said works counts as shitting on it.Â
another user commented in agreement with you, linking to a ridiculous article from a wildly bias “news” source (comicsalliance, if anyone cares, which is a hilarious joke of a site on its own since its whole owner/editor base is a bunch of nepotists with everything to gain by shilling each others comics) about why its every creative individuals mission to include diverse characters in their own creations. which you know, it’s not, but thats neither here nor there.Â
its nobody elses business to do “your” work for you. if you feel under-represented in comics, cartoons, stories, fiction, etc, start creating things you can identify with. it is absolutely insane to suggest that another artist, or writer, or whomever, who already have an established work, to change up THEIR work to better suit YOUR needs. you don’t go to a friends party and demand their change their cake from vanilla to chocolate just because you want chocolate. sure, you can request it, but they’re not obligated to humor that request. so, your options are what here? either dont go to the party because they dont have chocolate cake, OR, maybe bake your own chocolate cupcakes and bring it to the party yourself. maybe some people will love your fuckin chocolate cup cakes. maybe your chocolate cup cakes will be a big hit. never know unless you fuckin’ TRY instead of, iunno, throwing a big baby tantrum because there wasnt chocolate cake in the first place.
i hope that analogy makes sense to you and you dont take it as a literal fuckin suggestion about friends and party/cake and how your FRIENDS should just be CONSIDERATE of EVERYONES WANTS because that would just be another way of saying that you are entitled to be a bossy piece of shit who wants everything to be about themselves.
point is, is that no, you dont have the right to demand people include THIS or THAT in their works, and you sure as hell dont have the right to run a smear campaign against an individual because they didnt include THIS or THAT in their works at your “request”. you can ask, yes, but realize that their world doesnt necessarily revolve around you. realize that you have the creative power and ability to do your own thing and make your own works. i implore anyone who has ever felt slighted by an individual (or company, whatever) to, at the very least, try to make their own… representational, diverse…. thing.Â
… and then, you know, see how much you like it when someone barges in and makes some “suggestions” for your creations and then proceeds to lash out and accuse you of being a bigot or whatever because you didnt humor them.
