Update on the canine implant site osteosarcoma leg: I’ve got it cleaned up, articulated, and mounted in a shadowbox! This will be a teaching specimen at the vet clinic where I work, where the leg was amputated.

This is such an amazing specimen. The plate is fascinating, but it makes me want to know the full history of the animal.

Ask and you shall receive! The dog had a torn ACL several years ago that was repaired with the plate, but then developed the very rare side effect of osteosarcoma at the site. It was painful, for obvious reasons, causing the dog to not bear weight on the leg and the muscles to atrophy. I heard he was doing great shortly after surgery, and I’m sure he will adapt well to being a tripod!

People ask why I like bones and I’m not sure what the answer is to that, although I know I like animals and I can’t have 100+ live animals at my place. I also really like the stories that bones tell, and they always have stories.
