In 1966, 8-month old David Reimer was being circumcised at a Winnipeg hospital. During the procedure, a general practitioner filling in for the regular surgeon seared the boy’s penis with an electric cauterising machine. His penis was so badly burned that it eventually fell off.

David’s parents sought advice from Dr. John Money, a sex researcher at a Baltimore hospital. Money decided to use David as an experiment to prove that gender depends on how a child is raised.. Money claimed parental influences and society formed sexual identity. He suggested that the rest of David’s genitals be removed and that he be prescribed female hormones. David would live as a girl, it was determined. His name was changed to “Brenda” and his progress was compared with that of his identical twin, Brian. As they grew older, the differences between the two diminished. “I tried really hard to rear her as a gentle lady but it didn’t work,” said David’s mother.

Despite being dressed in girl’s clothing combined with years of counselling and therapy as well as hormone treatments, David insisted he was a boy. When David was 15-years-old, he learnt about the botched surgery from his father. From that point onward, he rejected further treatment, including an operation that was planned to create a vagina. David underwent surgery to remove his breasts and to construct a penis. He changed his name back to David and eventually went on to get married. He was never able to father children himself but became an outstanding stepfather.

His case created an upheaval in theories on sexual identity. Tragically, on the 4th of May, 2004, David committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

BECAUSE GENDER IS NOT A CHOICE OR A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT. IT IS NEUROLOGICAL AND CANNOT BE CHANGED.

Again. NOT A FREAKING CHOICE GUYS.

Alright everyone, with my phalloplasty right around the corner, my wife and I decided it would be a good time to finally do something we have always wanted to do and open an Etsy shop. Right now we have five original photograph prints available, and within the next few weeks I will be adding some of my own handmade custom metal and wood work as well. All of the earnings are going toward my surgery costs, so if you want a cool custom piece of art with a thank you note from me, check out our store! Signal boosts would be greatly appreciated! Here’s the link https://www.etsy.com/shop/WesternVision

I’m really trying to save up for surgery so even just a reblog would be greatly appreciated!

So ur transphobic?

Transgenders are mentally ill. No other mental illness is solved by mutilation. 42% of transgenders end up committing suicide because their treatment failed and they ended up still looking like the same gender. You can’t expect someone to treat you like a woman if your shoulders are wider than your waist and you’re 6′2, nor a man if your waist is wider than your shoulders and you’re 5′4.

They’re also a minority of the population. We can afford to let them be treated, but if they can share bathrooms with the opposite sex before having their genitals castrated, child molesters, which make up a larger fraction of the population, would be able to mascaraed as trannies to molest children.

I love the bathroom argument because not even once has anything like that happened

What the hell. What the everloving hell.

I also sincerely wonder if this person would consider a lobotomy “mutilation”, or if it’s just surgeries they don’t like themselves that affect someone with a neurological disorder.

Why do people care what someone does to their own body when said thing literally affects no one else? No one else is gonna be using those reproductive organs. Why do they give a shit if someone doesn’t want the particular ones they were born with?

Also, do people who refer to transgender people as “mutilating” their bodies have the same sort of objections to body modifications? Those are generally permanent. Do they vehemently oppose to people, say, stretching their earlobes?

What about cis women getting hysterectomies? Or cis men getting a vasectomy? How is that not “mutilation”? It’s “ruining” one’s reproductive organs, after all. Can’t have that!

some dude on survivor outed another survivor who happened to be trans and called it “deception” like this was some damn soap opera and everyone was like ”lmao that’s personal and not your fucking problem?” and the host immediately said “We don’t need to vote, just grab your torch” and had him kicked off. that’s some instant fucking karma.

and then they let it air and outed someone to everyone ??

Yeah, they still aired it. I bet any money they knew he was trans and were counting on that coming up, perhaps only for tokenism rather than drama, but I have doubts.

Just coz they played the role of “look what such good allies we all are” doesn’t mean they didn’t just exploit a trans person and leverage transantagonism for ratings.

Zeke applied for the show without telling them he was trans because he wanted to be Zeke the survivor contestant and not just the trans survivor contestant. It was after the producers contacted him to say they were interested in casting him that he revealed it only to the producers. So yeah, they knew he was trans, but not because of the drama or as a token, they were already going to cast him before they knew because he wanted to make sure he wasn’t cast just to be a token.

Zeke and Jeff Probst (the host) had talked about how he would be able to decide whether or not he wanted the fact that he’s trans to be part of his story and when it would be revealed on the show if it would be revealed. Unfortunately, he couldn’t pick when because Varner outed him.

They kept it in the show because Zeke wanted it to be aired. Zeke got to decide with the producers and the help of GLAAD how the episode would be handled and they had been discussing it since the tribal council happened when the show was filmed 8 or 9 months ago up until it aired yesterday. He was happy that because his tribemates came to his defense and he was able to speak about his own feelings about what happened that something positive came out of a horrible situation and that’s partly why he wanted it aired.

Here’s an interview he did on The Talk earlier today where he talks about how he felt and why it was still aired. And here’s the essay he wrote for the Hollywood Reporter. In the tribal council (7:33-9:30) he talked about his feelings of wanting to be just Zeke the contestant when he applied to the show.

if you aren’t out as a trans man, do not submit any pictures to the blog fuckyeahftms

theres a blog (dirtywhiteboi67.blogspot.com) that frequently links to and reposts pictures of trans men from fuckyeahftms, effectively outing them, in the name of showing how “testosterone is poison to the female body,” and “transgenderism was made to fix homosexuality and is a lesbian epidemic”

this blog also gets photos of trans men from other sites like instagram, some who explicitly mention they’re living stealth

the blog mostly features young trans men, including many who are minors, and typically writes a few paragraphs misgendering them and condemning “transgenderism”

if you’re a trans man, i would be extremely cautious posting any pictures of yourself online right now if you’re concerned about being outed

Whatever you do, don’t go after Dirt. Don’t visit her website, youtube channel, tumblr, or any other social media account. Her website automatically tracks every visitor, she is relentless and it isn’t hyperbolic to assert that there’s no end to the vitriol.

Dirt has been harassing trans people since at least the early 2000s, probably IRL before social media became a thing as well. Dirt,  based in the US, has close friends in England and Australia who have equally nothing better to do than join her in keeping a 24/7 “watch” on trans people sharing pictures and other identifiable information for them to “expose” forever more. If you can get to a free part of the web, it doesn’t matter if you had to fill out a form, log in, or how otherwise of a “closed” space it is, Dirt could be there. Dirt doesn’t just have dirtywhiteboi67 as a username, but also several sock puppet accounts.

She is one of several reasons that I’m careful about how much identifiable information I put out online. Her raison d’être is disclosing trans men with the explicit hope of causing us harm. Unless you’re a US based lawyer with endless supply of funds and support, do not engage. It took over 20 of us forum mods from around the world wasting more time and energy than I can justify just to keep her out from our closed communities on another blogging platform. And some of them who got too close to the fire received letters threatening legal actions. Dirt is to trans men, as Bug is to trans women.

Do not engage under any circumstance.

Boosting this, because Bug and Dirt are disgusting wastes of human tissue, and a good reminder to me of why I do not post selfies on my blog – I’m not a minor (I’m 35), but I’m very stealth, and losing that could mean I lose absolutely everything that keeps me alive.

Be careful, folks. Don’t let these disgusting, stupid, bitter people use you to fuel their machine.

Yep. If you are stealth, STAY STEALTH. Don’t post pics of yourself- or even specify your name- on sites where you specify you’re trans.

In addition to these people who have no life and are so insecure as to believe that trans people somehow invalidate their homosexuality because they are unavailable to bone to the Discerning Gold Star Lesbian for some reason, it could also cost you a job if the employer finds out about your history, especially in a more conservative area. Sad, but true- it happened to me last year.

God okay so I’m going to say this now; PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not risk your health or anyone’s in the form of getting a “cheap” binder of ebay or where ever. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE save your $4-$10 dollars for those cheap ebay ones and put it towards a gc2b binder. Or if you want an Underworks go for that but I highly suggest gc2b. They’re about $40 (with shipping) and will last you WAY longer than any cheap ebay one. They are MEANT for lasting you. I wash mine many times week, wear it daily, Wear them daily. I have two. Had them for almost a year now. But I cannot urge you enough to PLEASE save up your pennies for a PROPER SAFE binder. Binders you can breathe in, binders you can move in, binders that don’t crush your ribs, binders that are comfortable, binders that are safe.

This isn’t a safe binder:

image

It uses clasps and not compression.

This is a c2b binder; made by trans people for trans people:

These binders have no clasps but uses spandex to compress you safety.

Measure your chest before ordering to make sure you don’t get one too small or too large.

Used Binders

If you can’t afford a binder, don’t despair! Used binders are often passed on by post-op trans men or those whose binders may no longer fit. There are a few programs available that help distribute donated second-hand binders:

You can also try asking around for an inexpensive hand-me-down binder on one of themailing lists for trans guys or check out LiveJournal’s FTM Garage Sale and the FtM Sales, Swap, and Support group on Facebook.

How to Choose a Chest Binder

If you still remember your old bra size, you can find out your binder size by using theBra to Chest Size Converter Tool. If you don’t know your old bra size, you can measure yourself the old-fashioned way:

  1. Take a snug measurement of the fullest part of your chest using a tape measure (best if measured while clothed) and write that number down onto a sheet of paper.
  2. Measure underneath your chest where the crease is and write that number down as well.
  3. Add those numbers together and divide the sum by 2. This number will differentiate your size not only from brand to brand but from binder to binder as well.

Selecting a binder brand and style can be difficult: there are so many options that it can be overwhelming! Plus, there aren’t very many reviews of binders other than those about Underworks’ and T-Kingdom’s more popular models. After buying your binder, help make the experience easier for guys in the future by contributing your review to one of the review sites listed below.

Essentially, there are two types of binders: short ones and long ones. The short ones end right at your waist. The down side of these is that if you carry some extra weight, short binders tend to roll up and act more like a bra. The long ones can be pulled down past your waist by several inches, however it’s inevitable that it will still roll up. To reduce the chances of this, wear a belt. Choosing between a short and long binder has more to do with your body type, specifically your abdomen, and not your chest size.

Lastly, consider the location of the company you’re buying from. Buying from a company that’s closer to you can save you a significant amount of money on shipping costs.

How to Put On a Chest Binder

It might seem silly, but you’re probably going to need some help figuring out how to put on your new binder, particularly if you purchased one of the longer styles.

  1. Put your binder inside out and upside down.
  2. Step into your binder and pull the bottom of it up, ideally to your belt line. The binder should still be inside out and upside down.
  3. Use the sleeves as handles to pull the top of the binder (the end closer to your feet) up to your shoulders.
  4. Put your arms through the sleeve holes and adjust your chest to your needs. You may need to pull the bottom of the binder out from underneath itself if you don’t want it folded under. For others, leaving it folded under may help stop the binder from rolling up.

Don’t be disappointed if you look in the mirror and it looks like you have one big boob in the middle of your chest. You just need to adjust your chest. Reach in from the neck hole and push your chesticles down and out. You’re basically pushing your nipple toward your armpit to achieve the flattest looking chest possible.

FTM Chest Binding Tips

Very important: When binding, you should not by any means feel as though you can’t breathe or like you’re going to pass out from a lack of oxygen.

Binders aren’t the most comfortable things in the world. To make binding more comfortable, and to reduce the possibility of the binder moving around a bit, some guys wear a light shirt underneath.

Depending on the size of your chest, you may need to layer clothing on top of the binder to get optimal chest flattening. You’ll find that some of the shirts in your closet require you to layer more than shirts in your wardrobe.

You can swim in your binder. Just wear a sleeveless or sleeved T-shirt over it. Don’t worry if your binder seems less effective after a swim, this isn’t permanent. Simply wash it and it will go back to normal.

Your chest will look bigger than it really is when you look down at it. Check in the mirror for a more accurate side view.

Not all binders breathe well, and the reality is that you’re probably going to get hot. If you’ve already started testosterone, you’re definitely going to sweat. The build up of sweat can irritate your skin causing rashes and sores. Wearing a thin cotton shirt that breathes well underneath your binder may help prevent this. If you find this uncomfortable, try applying corn starch to your body before putting on your binder to help keep it from holding in moisture. If you’ve already experienced skin irritation of some sort, take care of it the same way you would an open wound. Washing the irritated area with anti-bacterial soap will keep it clean and help it heal faster.

Conclusion

Chest binding, as cumbersome as it may seem, can be very freeing for transgender men. There’s a plethora of quality FTM chest binding products available for body types of all shapes and sizes. Regardless of what you use for binding, please remember to put your health first. Now that you’re armed with all the information you need to find the right binder for you, go forth and feel more comfortable in your skin!

gc2b is a godsend, IMHO. Infinitely more comfortable and gets you flatter than most binders out there.

The only reason I’ve had to buy new ones is losing weight.

Help us provide an option for the nonbinary and transmasculine community in terms of swimtops. Everyone should have the option to go shirtless if they want to and everyone should be able to do it comfortably and confidently. Some people are cool with wearing a bikini top, tight compression sports bra, or a baggy tshirt – but what if you aren’t? What if you want to get a tan and wear something that’s more “masculine” or gender neutral? What if you want to be able to just feel shirtless? Our Bareskin Top is our solution to this problem. Offered in a variety of skin tones and in a more comfortable cut than other binders on the market, the Bareskin Top allows you to wear something that is less visually triggering than anything else out there and allows you to get a tan while also spending time in the water.

We need your help to make it a reality though! Our kickstarter is live until December 19, 2015 and with your help donating and spreading the word, we can have these bad boys available by next summer if we meet our fundraising goal.

Don’t you think everybody deserves to feel comfortable in their bare skin?

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bareksintop/bareskin-top-transmasculine-swim-binder

Donate, signal boost, spread the word, & support your community! If every person who reblogged this donated just $5 we would reach our goal in no time!

Special thanks to Yoomi Park for shooting our video and for Kayla, Chris, Rookie and Courtney for drinking beer at 11am to make this happen.

This product won’t be perfect for everyone but for some it’s exactly what they are looking for– I know that we made the prototype because of my personal experience with Dysphoria and not being satisfied with the options I have for swimtops as a transmasc person. I don’t want to cover myself with a shirt all the time, I don’t want to swim in something that looks like a wetsuit, I don’t like the way my other binders look underneath tanktops in the summer, etc. I personally want to look down and not be triggered, and for me (and many others) top surgery isn’t attainable anytime soon, so something that “blends” more into my skin is a relief.

The bareskin top has helped ease my Dysphoria, similar to when I tried on my very first binder– and now I wear this top more than my other binder hands down.

SO AGAIN– if every one of my followers donated JUST $1 we would easily meet our goal!! We see that a lot of you support this idea and we want to make it a reality– but we need your help!!

^^^^

please please donate to this, or boost it if you can’t. So many guys/Non-binary peeps need this product to make summer manageable.

DEBI JACKSON, MOTHER OF TRANSGENDER CHILD, GIVES MOVING SPEECH

The best part of the video may be when Jackson addresses the comments she’s heard about her daughter and sets the record straight about statements like you “wanted a girl so you turned your child into one” and “kids have no idea what they want or who they are — my kids wants to be a dog, should I let him?”

So watch the full video to see her answers to those difficult questions here.
