I honestly hate how art and media have kind of romanticized the idea of like “going off your meds and being your true self again” because like I started taking antidepressants and like immediately got a new job, found a place to live, improved my relationships with people in my life and completely reconciled with my sort of estranged ex-girlfriend?? Medication can be rad and while I realize that it’s not for everybody I don’t think anything should be trying to convince anyone that being on medication inherently makes you less of who you are

(Most) Medication is for helping you to be you again. The real me isn’t tired by just walking to the train station. The real me is not my anxiety or depression. They don’t define me.

The real me is who I am when I’m not anxious and feeling worthless 24/7.

Medication is supposed to be the chemical equivalent of glasses or a wheelchair, depending on the severity of impairment. It tries to help you compensate for what has been taken, been broken, or is missing.

In particular, i always hear the myth that anti-depressants give you “artificial happiness”… no, no, no. They give your brain the ability to be happy. You won’t always be happy, and sometimes you’ll be sad. But the happiness you’re able to feel when you’re on meds is your own, real, happiness.

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE NEUROTYPICALS IN THE BACK!!!

I mean this is important for neurotypicals but it’s honestly more important for people who struggle with mental illness and hate being on meds for a variety of reasons (aka me).

Take away med stigma! Don’t deny yourself something that can help you live a more fulfilling life and don’t shame people for their choices!

A few years ago I tried going off my anxiety meds (because I’d been on a super low dose since like elementary school and wanted to see if I even still needed it, plus I talked to the doctor about it first (which is very important – don’t just go screw with your brain)) and long story short I now take 3x what I had been before.

Also, medication doesn’t just magically change the way your brain is structured – it doesn’t just eliminate the problem, rather it makes it easier for you to work with it or manage it. It’s like a previous person said, that most medications are glasses for faulty vision, rather than LASIK.

lmao this is so dumb they’re completely choosing to write the other girls argument as idiotic with all them buzzwords when in reality yes it’s okay to wear makeup. we get it. jfc literally makeup is forced on you and marketed to you by society 24/7 but there’s nothing wrong with critically thinking about beauty standards and how women are looked down upon for having flaws like undereye circles and made to feel less than by makeup companies. like this is such libfem nonsense. I love makeup and yes many people wear it for fun but that doesn’t negate other criticisms and the truth is women who criticize makeup companies arent oppressing you like come on

i like the part where the actress playing the anti-makeup girl is wearing makeup

and therefore kind of totally vindicating all the weakass buzzwords about how the patriarchy oppresses girls into wearing makeup because clearly the people who made this didn’t think they could have a bare-faced actress be the voice of anti makeup because it wouldn’t look good on the cameras

The media wants to demonize Radical Feminism so bad.In what world is it healthy to cover your face 24/7 ?

The media? Lol, ya’ll do that YOURSELVES. And who the hell said 24/7?? Hahaha

Makeup is fun @iloveradfems so fuck off and mind your own business. What other women put on your face has nothing to do with you.

Who called y’all?

Anyway women are told they don’t care about themselves, they’re sick, they’re mentally ill, they’re bad women… if they don’t wear makeup. Because the only reason you wouldn’t do this literally every morning you’re not really a woman:

•prime your face and eyes
After washing your face, you pat it dry and apply a moisturizer followed by a flat primer so that any features that your face may have had are adequately hidden, allowing for a blank mask upon which to paint your face
•apply concealer
Any and all blemishes, scars, acne spots, pores, lines, dark spots, or really any characteristics revealing that you are in fact a human woman and not a mannequin must be covered or else you are disgusting and sloppy
•apply foundation
If your whole entire face is not the same color then you are doing it wrong
•highlight
Because foundation conceals any natural angles on your face, you have to apply special light color to make people think you have a human face and are not wearing a mask
•contour
See above, but planes and dark colors
•apply highlighter to your eye area
If you don’t then you will look “tired” or like you didn’t care enough to do your makeup right
•apply eyeliner
Foundation makes your entire face look like one flat color, so you have to draw rings around your eyes in order to remind people that you have eyes.
•apply at least one but up to four different shades of eyeshadow
If you apply the wrong amount or color you risk being ostracized or suffering social repercussions in your personal and professional life, but this is about how you feel guuuuuuuurl have fun!
•apply mascara
Or else people might not see that you have eyelashes
•curl your lashes
Or else they might fall into your eyes because of the weight of the goop you combed onto them
•apply lip liner
If it doesn’t match either your skin or your lipstick color you risk being seen as somehow morally inferior
•color in your lips
Because the natural color of your lips isn’t good enough
•apply blush
Because without the illusion that there is blood running to your cheeks at all times people might just think you’re wearing a latex mask
•apply translucent powder to set your face
Or else it’s going to wind up in every crease and running and making you look thirty years older than you are within thirty minutes rather than forty-five minutes.

And let’s not forget! Nowadays if you don’t draw on your eyebrows you’re failing at being a woman and should just give a man your woman card they’ll do it better than you.

But yeah we do this stupid bullshit for ourselves I for one love taking my hard-earned money and wiping my ass with it so that I can look like a sepia clown.

@anti-radfem you’re served

It’s almost never that complicated, but most reasonable people don’t notice or care whether you’re wearing makeup or not. And it’s encouraged by everyone to remove that makeup at the end of the day, so… you’re right! Wearing makeup 24/7 isn’t good for you. But there is nothing wrong with wearing makeup during the day. So serve yourself, and let women put makeup on if they want to.

You all just come off as the Fun/Empowerment Police who drag women down if they’re not doing something on your Official List of Female Empowerment.

And yeah, my mom never wore makeup (or, for that matter, skirts). No one cared since if they ever noticed it, she’d give them a tongue lashing. Wearing makeup isn’t about men or men finding you attractive, it’s about YOU and what YOU want to do, and how YOU express yourself. I understand the pressure to wear a full face of makeup, but it’s ultimately your choice as to whether or not you listen to said pressure when you don’t really want to do something- just don’t act like an insecure jerk when someone chooses differently from you.

Makeup definitely isn’t all about “male approval”. I want absolutely no sort of sexual or romantic attention from anyone and yet I wear makeup daily. I just want to present myself in a certain way and I really don’t care what the trends are.

Also, you definitely don’t need all of the steps listed up above to do makeup and make it look good, holy crap. Again, that depends on what look you’re going for.

Oh, and by the way, I make fun of stupid advertising by makeup companies all the time. There’s some really ridiculous stuff out there but that doesn’t mean I can’t use some of it anyways.

Do you look at Mimikyu in its fake eyes or its real eyes?

Imagine Mimikyu wearing a “my eyes are down here” crop-top.

were the tits really necessary

It technically already had the one, so I just evened things out. Also, those shirts are usually worn by people whose chests are often stared at, so it really makes sense thematically. Anyway, Mimikyu would appreciate it if you stopped policing its body, please.

Wouldn’t that mean Mimikyu has tits on top of its head?

Uhhhhhhh.

Yes.

I guess that is what that means.

This game has sentient bags of garbage. Head tits can slide I think.

Seismitoad.

When someone who professes to be vegan takes shitty care of their pets 🙃

It gets better when they say this:

“these animals have no cognition or emotions so I can keep them in shitty conditions BUT eating them is murder, ofc”

Ahahaha holy shit

Why are vegans (at least the vocal ones) so often some of the most uninformed people in regards to animals?

Pretty sure this is just me but I cannot stand the idea of having to work with people who believe in a magic man. In my eyes you are deemed and idiot if you believe in a god. I am strongly against the idea of a god, I think that those who believe is a god have the IQ of a grain of sand.

If you don’t believe in a god then, to me, you are automatically smarter than anyone who does.

damn, I wanna follow you because of all your male positivity posts but idk if I want to do that now that you make generalizations and basically call me an idiot.

I am not a fan of most religious people and I’m atheist myself but calling people dumb for choosing to believe in something they can’t prove is asshole-ish behavior and tbh if you believe stuff like this is okay you are way dumber than any religious person I’ve ever met

I’m not religious, but I am spiritual, and you, OP are rude and not very bright.

This is a really shitty thing to say.

Anybody ever notice that they primarily go after the Abrahamic religions?  I don’t think I’ve ever seen an athiest go after Vishnu, Shiva, Buddha, ore really any of the Eastern Religions.

Huh you’re right.

Never seen many atheists (especially on here) go after Islam either

1) All atheists attack all religions, christians are just so self centered they cant realize that

2) Religion makes you less smart, it really does, because your entire world view is based on something factually incorrect, anti science, and anti logic. Therefor, you’re fundamentally wrong about almost everything (even if youve got the right answer, its usually for the wrong reasons, thus, you’re still wrong).

3) OP is right, ya’ll are butthurt/seeking validation from your religious friends.

4) Fuck Islam. fuck Christianity. fuck Buddhism, fuck all religions.

5) Religion is inherently evil and a control tactic. Religious people are generally good, if not brainwashed, people.

that’s ridiculous. whether or not a person is religious has fuck-all to do w/their intelligence. you can be anti-religion all you want but it’s not right to say someone is unintelligent just because they’re religious

thanks for missing the point and proving me right. youve always been a dumb hypocrite havent you? yeah

oh yay im suddenly anti science because i believe in God. whats next, youre gonna tell me I hate Pokémon because I’m religious.

I better go kill myself for being Wiccan since my religion whose only rule is not to hurt anyone is evil and I am evil for believing in it.

Yay, I have a reason to use this gif now:

I’m a Buddhist/Wiccan/Christian cocktail, and according to the OP I am therefore an evil human being for believing in love thy neighbor and all that stuff.

And in keeping with that, I’m going to just pray for them and move on.

What the fuck am I reading

I’m very confused right now. I’m not sure who’s being serious or what.

I’d like to use this opportunity to remind people that religious beliefs are referred to as “faith” because they are exactly that – believing in something despite the inability to prove or disprove its existence.

Are there dumb-ass religious people in the world? Hell yes there are. Stupidity doesn’t discriminate. No one is immune to stupidity. Being an atheist is not incompatible with being an idiot.

This is that same tired old argument that science and religion are inherently incompatible and religion is bullcrap because science says so. I’m always unimpressed and immediately less inclined to take someone seriously when they start talking about how religion has been “disproved” or some shit like that, because guess what? The same science you people claim has “disproven” the existence of deities and such isn’t technically able to “disprove” anything. Because that’s not how science works. You don’t “prove” things with science. You either find support for a hypothesis, or you fail to find support for a hypothesis. Failing to support something does NOT mean you’ve proven it wrong. It could be as simple as your hypothesis not approaching the problem from the right angle. Or it could mean the hypothesis is full of crap. But without more information, you don’t know. Once you get a shit-ton of evidence in support of something, as is the case with the scientific theory of evolution, it’s generally regarded as fact, but it’s still not really correct to say “Science has proven that ____”.

Science can’t touch on the supernatural. The entire reason we even consider such things “supernatural” is because we don’t currently have the means to explain or study them. Sure, there’s all kinds of fancy “ghost hunting” equipment, but there’s also all kinds of problems involved with how they’re used and controls and variables and it’s a mess and not really science. It’s not just that you can’t find tangible support for these things, either. How the hell do you go about testing for it? Like seriously, how would one even begin building a base of evidence for the existence of an incorporeal being? You can’t. Which also means you can’t find support against it. How would you conduct an experiment to find support that something doesn’t exist? There are species people had assumed extinct because evidence of their persistence hadn’t been seen for decades, only for them to be “rediscovered” years later.

You can find support for alternative explanations (ex. scientific explanations for the creation of Earth/origin of life being things like the Big Bang theory and evolution). But even those things can be woven into people’s personal religious beliefs, such as some higher existence having been the kick-start that set evolution in motion. I don’t know why that would make someone stupid, because again, you can’t prove it wasn’t

It’s kind of silly that so many people would rather compromise their understanding of science than adapt their religious views to incorporate what we know about the world. We know certain things about the world, so I don’t know why people are often so quick to deny those things because they “go against” their faith. But just the same, it’s foolish to completely denounce a religion created in a completely different context thousands of years ago as crap just because it doesn’t explain the creation of the world in scientific accuracy to its historical audience of people who would have thought the Earth was flat.

I haven’t even gotten into the fact that someone can follow certain ideas of a religion without necessarily believing in all the fanciful stuff that religion includes. Someone could decide they really like Jesus’s ideas about how to treat other people without believing Jesus was literally the son of God. I fail to see how having morals influenced by religious ideas makes someone an idiot or a terrible person.

tl;dr –

  • Religion is not, and never will be, science. Faith is about believing in something despite the fact that you can’t prove it’s true.
  • However, that does not mean someone can’t believe both.
  • Ideas are not proven or disproved by science.
  • Hypotheses are either supported by evidence, or fail to be supported. You can’t fricking say you’ve “disproved” something with an experiment because it doesn’t fricking work like that.
  • You can be against the principles or teachings of a religion without thinking that everyone who follows them is an idiot.
  • Not every religious person is straight-by-the-book, you know.

I truly believe that if Jesus came back today he would surround himself with

  • people of color
  • women
  • anyone who falls under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella
  • people with mental illnesses
  • people with physical disabilities
  • the homeless
  • the poor
  • the lower classes

I get the feeling he wouldn’t be hanging out with your typical upper class, rich, white, evangelical protestant Christians.  But that’s just a hunch

Or he would just hang out with everyone, rich and poor, healthy and ill, etc, because things like that wouldn’t make a difference for him.

Yeah, it’s not like Jesus would tell you to love your neighbor as yourself or anything.

Love to be the bearer of this news to OP: Black churches tend to be very solid in their faith and very evangelical. Also the majority of evangelist are lower class and rural, and the pastor’s arnt exactly rich either (which is why mega churches are an exception, not a norm).

Also seeing as to how Jesus was a man of the working class, a carpenter, who preached love for ones neighbors and God, and was crucified by the privileged people claiming to be victims and using the authority of an oppressive regime to have an innocent man tortured and put to death (wait, this sounds familiar). So while he would be with people who are the actual rejects of society , he wouldn’t ally himself with any social justice bs

He literally did hang out with all kinds of people. He picked a fricking tax collector (who were notoriously rich, not to mention hated by everyone else) as one of his twelve disciples.
