Claus’s revenge tantrum is kind of incredible though for a couple of reasons:

  1. Unless they were beating stuff up on the way back from Alec’s house, he’s the same level he was during the Mole Cricket fight which is like level 1
  2. He managed to get his tiny Lv1 ass all the way to the frickin’ Drago Plateau, taking the long way, without running into any Mighty Bitey Snakes or Agitated Boars or Crag Lizards or the like (or he’s just really good at running away from battles). Which is impressive.
  3. He managed to get his tiny Lv1 ass all the way to the frickin’ Drago Plateau after stopping by Aeolia’s house and not once that whole way there did he stop and think “you know this is a really fricking stupid plan, I should probably go back”. Which is also impressive, but not in a good way.

I don’t understand the mindset of “you criticized an aspect of that thing, you must hate it”.

I criticize everything.

I hate a thing? I’ll criticize the hell out of what I don’t like about it, generally with specific reasons why I don’t like said things. And I admit, sometimes it’s just really fun to tear something you dislike to shreds and rub dirt on it. It can be kind of exhilarating.

I love a thing? I’m still gonna criticize aspects of it I don’t like or feel like could have been better because it’s impossible for anything to 100% meet everyone’s standards. I talk about the stupid/nonsensical/poorly-written stuff my favorite characters do about as much as I talk about stupid things characters I hate do.

I like discussing things. If there weren’t flaws to pick at there’d be a whole lot less to talk about. I love when I can honestly discuss what’s good/bad about a movie, game, character design, etc. and all parties involved are accepting of other opinions even if they don’t align with their own. That’s how you get new perspectives on things, and maybe sometimes even change your opinion in a good way. It’s not always just, “This thing is good. Let’s talk about how it’s good even though we both have the exact same opinion and there’s nothing new to say about it.”

Similarly, it’s possible to talk about a character’s intentional flaws without thinking that flaw makes them a bad character. Flaws are necessary. They make a character interesting, realistic, and well-rounded. But I can accept and understand why a certain trait adds to a character while still finding it annoying or not particularly liking it. For example, sometimes child characters are annoying as hell, because they’re done realistically. I can appreciate that they’re done realistically while still finding it annoying as hell as someone who has worked with children. That doesn’t necessarily mean I hate their existence. Just like I don’t hate every human being with one character trait I’m really not fond of.

Not everyone has to adore every single feature of something for them to “truly” love it. Otherwise no one would have friends.

I find the duality in this game super interesting. Tribes of Ancients and Darkness, Light and Dark Prognostici, Purity and Chaos Hearts, Flipside and Flopside, two Merlons, opposite citizens in each one otherwise …

The ultimate source of this game’s conflict is the union of two members of opposite tribes, and yet the solution of the conflict is the second union they share. At the same time, though, the game doesn’t perfectly embrace the union of opposites—the Light Prognosticus and Purity Heart are ultimately the ones that win out, and the Dark Prognosticus and Chaos Heart fail.

Meanwhile, Dimentio seems to exist as a walking, talking example of that duality. He’s constantly working both the heroes and the villains as the man in the middle of both of them, he wears a mask coloured black and white and split down the middle … yet in the end he denies the power of the Pure Hearts and covets the destructive power of the Chaos Heart, favouring one side over the other in the end. This leads to his death.

It’s hard to say what the ultimate message is. Does Super Paper Mario want you to take the yin with the yang, so to speak? Does it want you to understand that light and darkness are both necessary and must both exist in tandem for harmony? Or is it a more straightforward “love shall prevail” type of message that favours the yin over the yang and takes a stance against chaos, destruction, and nothingness?

Maybe the game isn’t that deep, but given how much effort was put into crafting this game’s surprisingly effective lore, I don’t want to be too hasty to deny its depth.

This rat is 87 centimeters tall and weighs 10 grams. This rat is about 0.6 the density of helium. I carry this rat around on a string like a balloon.

It will take this rat half an hour to reach outer space

How did you calculate it’s volume only based on its height? You’re missing 2 dimensions of information.

Maybe they measured the difference between its height and its width to figure it out. I can’t think of how to properly describe it, but I’m sure there’s a way to do it. You can spin it to get a full 3d image.

Someone else said that you’d basically take the dimensions from the picture and scale those with the given height. Since the height 0.87 meters, the width (judging from the pic) would be roughly 60% of the height. So the estimated width is 0.52 meters. I’m gonna pretend that the length is the same as the width so that would also be 0.52 meters.

The volume would be roughly 240000cm^3. That means the density of the rat is 0.0000416g/cm^3 and the density of helium gas is 0.000164g/cm^3. So the rat’s density is actually 0.25 (25%) the density of helium from what I got.

I don’t know how they got 60%. The rat still floats though.

can someone tell me what the difference between these two memes are

because I’m pretty certain they convey the exact same sentiment

No! @nintendette explained this to me the other day!

– Caveman Spongebob (SpongeGar) is when your primal instincts kick in – for example, this image has been used with the title “when you get up in the middle of the night to get food and you hear someone coming” KnowYourMeme page here
– Mr Krabs conveys realization and panic – for example, this image has been paired with the title “when you turn in an exam and your classmates start talking and none of your answers match” KnowYourMeme page here

XERNEAS, YVELTAL AND ZYGARDE FROM GENERATION 6

Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde are based around Yggdrasil of Norse mythology. Xerneas is Eikþyrnir who lives under the life tree, Yveltal is Hraesvelgr who represents death, and Zygarde is the underground Nidhogg. Xerneas shares its life, Yveltal takes the lives of others to replenish its own, and Zygarde works to maintain the natural balance of the life-death cycle.

RESHIRAM, ZEKROM, AND KYUREM FROM GENERATION 5

Reshiram and Zekrom represent Truth vs Ideals, and the Tao philosophy of Yin/Yang. While Kyurem is the grey area in morality, a hollow shell left behind by the singular Dragon these three once used to be before humans tried using it for what they perceived to be “right”, when in reality it was just differing perspectives.

PALKIA, DIALGA, GIRATINA, AND ARCEUS FROM GENERATION 4

Dialga and Palkia are the Shinto legend inspired, godlike entities responsible for guarding and creating space and time. They come from a more scientific approach to how the universe works/was created, whereas Arceus and Giratina are more spiritual as they are designed with inspirations from various versions of “God” and “Satan” in dozens of different religions around the world.

GROUDON, KYOGRE, AND RAYQUAZA FROM GENERATION 3

Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza are modelled after the biblical beasts; The Behemoth, Leviathan, and Ziz. Groudon created the land, Kyogre rules the seas, and Rayquaza guards the skies. Groudon and Kyogre helped shape the world (Alpha) and often nearly end the world in conflict with each other (Omega). Rayquaza acts as a neutralizing force to aid the world and its people.

HO-OH AND LUGIA FROM GENERATION 2

Ho-Oh has clear inspirations from various fire-birds in different legends from various cultures like the Phoenix, Fenghuang, and the Huma Bird, as it is associated with the power to revive itself and others from ashes, bring eternal happiness, and rainbow iconography. Lugia could be considered similar to the sea-dwelling dragon, Ryujin of Shinto myth, and he has subtle elements that seem similar to a beluga whale.

MOLTRES, ARTICUNO, AND ZAPDOS FROM GENERATION 1

Hot bird, cold bird, and zappy bird.

I love the first gen legendaries but this is true..

Actually not true. Basically, the whole thing about first generation and the kanto region is a theme of colours. You start off on a pallet (town), blank and colourless with no team behind you. Every city and town, and even where you fight the elite four, are named after a colour. (Viridian City, Lavender Town, and Cinnabar Island to name a few). The 3 legendary birds aren’t supposed to be based on their elements, but rather the colours red, yellow, and blue. “The primary color triad in a standard artist’s color wheel.”

Please, don’t discredit the team behind this. It’s a great design choice in my opinion.
