In Super Mario Sunshine, if you go to the last mission of Bianco Hills and balance on a rope while repeatedly using the Rocket Nozzle, then get hit by a Wind Spirit, Mario will shoot up to a great height. As he falls, he will sometimes stop in midair, looking broken. Pressing the Y button will resume the fall.
This passage from the 1977 novel The Shining by Stephen King is thought to have been the inspiration for the Phantamanta boss in Super Mario Sunshine. Just like in the game, the shadowy manta moves towards a hotel and fragments into parts.
Textures used for the different kinds of Goop in Super Mario Sunshine. These are tileable horizontally and vertically. The last texture is an unused type of Goop only seen in beta videos, but which still remains in the game’s files.

In Super Mario Sunshine, the camera never follows Mario into the Delfino Plaza sewers. If we move the camera inside, we can see that nothing except a floor is modeled, and that Mario is standing slightly below the floor.
